2018 MIRSA State Conference – Recap

2018 MIRSA State Conference

Date: Oct. 23-25, 2018

Host: University of Michigan – Ann Arbor

It was a beautiful day in the MIRSA neighborhood as Michiganders gathered for the annual State Workshop presented by Life Fitness and Fitness Things October 23 – 25. 33 students and 57 professional staff members assembled at the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor for all things recreation. The workshop kicked off with pre-conference opportunities including facility tours and visiting UM’s Adventure Education Center.

Brad Barlog was awarded the Robert W. England MIRSA Outstanding Student Award and Andy Boehnlein was awarded the Dr. Michael J. Stevenson MIRSA Outstanding Service Award. Conference presentations, facility tours, and roundtables ranged from “Conflict with the Millennial Generation” to “We’re Bringing Freshmen Back”. New this year, micro-roundtables were offered for a quick, in-depth dive into non-traditional round table options.

One survey respondent said, “I thought this was an overall great conference and I learned so much! There were so many opportunities to talk to people from around the state and I can’t wait to take the ideas back to my campus.”
